What is 5G business internet?

5G business internet uses a data SIM and a cellular router to bring internet to your location. The router connects to a nearby 5G tower, then shares that connection with your network over Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

With business 5G internet, there's no trench, cable drop, or installer visit. If your site has good 5G coverage, you can usually be online the day your gear arrives. You can also use the same setup as LTE business internet where 5G isn't available, because most 5G routers fall back to 4G.

5G vs. fiber and cable for business

Fiber is still the best primary connection when you can get it. 5G wins on speed of setup and on staying up when a wired line fails.

A cut line can take out fiber or cable, but it doesn't touch a cellular connection, so 5G works well as backup.

5G business internet that moves with you

Your Crosstalk Mobile service follows your business. Our SIMs hand off from tower to tower automatically, and we've tested them in food trucks, command vehicles, and RVs.

  • Food trucks that need card payments at every stop
  • Mobile command centers that have to stay connected on the road
  • Pop-ups and job sites that change locations

Service covers the lower 48 states, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, anywhere T-Mobile has 5G or 4G signal.

Primary connection or backup internet for business?

Most businesses with a good wired connection should use 5G as backup internet. Most businesses without one should test it as their primary connection.

Use 5G as backup if:

  • A short outage stops sales, phones, or card payments
  • You already have fiber or cable that works well most days
  • You want your router to switch over automatically when the main line drops

Use 5G as your primary connection if:

  • Fiber isn't available, or the install date is months away
  • You're running a pop-up, construction site, or temporary office
  • Your site has strong 5G coverage and your cable service is slow or unreliable

To test 5G, put the router where it will live and run it through a normal workday.

What you need: router, antenna, SIM, and data plan

A working setup needs three things: a 5G router or adapter, a data SIM, and a plan built for routers. An antenna is optional, but it can make a big difference inside a metal or concrete building.

Pick the hardware that matches your job:

What does 5G business internet cost?

With Crosstalk Mobile, unlimited service costs $149 a month, or $119 a month when you pay $1,428 for the year. Hardware is a one-time cost, and it's 10% off when a plan is in your cart.

Item Price
Unlimited plan, monthly $149/month
Unlimited plan, annual $1,428/year ($119/month)
Static IP add-on $5/month or $60/year
Pepwave 5G Adapter $399
Peplink MAX BR1 Mini 5G $649
Peplink B One 5G $699

A simple first-year example: the Pepwave 5G Adapter at $359.10 with the plan discount, plus an annual plan at $1,428, comes to $1,787.10 before tax. After that, you pay only the plan.

Compare that with what an outage costs you. If a few lost hours would cost more than a month of backup service, 5G pays for itself quickly.

How to choose 5G business internet plans

Check these before you buy a plan:

  1. Coverage at your address. Coverage maps are a starting point, so test the network where the router will sit.
  2. Real data limits. Look for caps, slowdowns after a set amount of data, and limits on using a router.
  3. Contract terms. Month-to-month service lets you test a site without a long commitment.
  4. Router support. Confirm the SIM works in the router you plan to use.
  5. Static IP options. You'll want this if you need to reach cameras, servers, or VPNs from outside.
  6. Who answers the phone. When your backup is the only thing running, you want an engineer who knows your router.
  7. Where the SIM comes from. Gray market SIMs can put your connection at risk, so buy from an authorized provider.

Crosstalk Mobile is an authorized T-Mobile MVNO. Our data-only SIM plans are month-to-month, with no caps or throttling, and they work with any 5G router.

Businesses choose us for three reasons. Our latency is lower than Starlink's, which keeps calls, video meetings, and remote desktops responsive. A static IP costs just $5 a month, so you can reach your cameras, servers, and VPNs. And when you call or text 888-381-7750, an engineer who knows your router answers.

Static IPs, CGNAT, and remote access

If you need to reach something on your network from outside, plan for it before you buy. That includes cameras, servers, VPNs, and remote desktop tools.

Many cellular plans put you behind CGNAT, which means you share an address with other customers and can't accept inbound connections. A static IP solves that by giving your line a fixed public address.

On Crosstalk Mobile, the static IP add-on is $5 a month. We assign the address to your SIM, you set your router's APN to iot.cc.static, and then you confirm the router's WAN IP matches. Our static IP setup guide walks through each step.

5G internet for business FAQ

Is 5G good enough for business internet?

Yes, if your location has strong coverage. Test it at the spot where the router will sit, and use an outdoor antenna if the indoor signal is weak.

Can 5G replace my business internet?

It can at many sites, especially where fiber isn't available. Where you already have fiber, 5G usually works best as backup.

What's the best backup internet for business?

A cellular connection is a strong choice because it doesn't depend on your wired line. Use a router that can fail over automatically so nobody has to switch anything by hand.

Does 5G business internet work in a vehicle?

Yes. Our SIMs hand off from tower to tower while you move, so food trucks, command vehicles, and RVs stay connected wherever T-Mobile has signal in our coverage area.

Do I need a static IP?

Only if you need inbound access to cameras, servers, or a VPN. Most offices that just browse, call, and run cloud apps don't need one.

Does 5G work for a small business?

Yes. A 5G adapter or small router and one data plan can cover a small office, and you can start month-to-month.
