Introduction
We just added the Pepwave 5G Adapter to our store. It's a compact cellular modem that converts 5G signal to ethernet so you can feed high-speed connectivity into existing network gear. No need to buy a new router or replace your current setup.
What Is the Pepwave 5G Adapter?
The Pepwave 5G Adapter (ADP-5GY-T-PRM) is a cellular modem for networks that already have routers and switches. You're not replacing anything. It sits between your 5G signal and your network infrastructure, pulls in 5G from available carriers, and sends it out through a 2.5G ethernet port.
Pepwave 5G Adapter Specifications
Speed and Connectivity
The numbers you care about:
- 5G down: 3.4 Gbps
- 5G up: 550 Mbps
- LTE fallback: 1.6 Gbps down, 200 Mbps up
- Ethernet port: 2.5G (so you actually use that 5G speed)
- SIM: Two nano-SIM slots, plus eSIM options
Note this is a single modem router. This means you can have two SIMs but only one is active at any given time.
Power and Installation
PoE (Power over Ethernet) is one way to power this device. Most modems need separate power runs, which is a pain when you're deploying at remote sites or multiple locations. This one takes 802.3at PoE, so you run data and power on one cable.
- Power: 802.3at PoE or 12V adapter
- Uses: 6.5W typical, 12W under load
- Size: 5.4 x 3.1 x 1.3 inches
- Weight: 0.86 pounds
- Temperature range: -40 to 149 degrees Fahrenheit
It's compact enough for outdoor cabinets, vehicle installs, industrial enclosures, or temporary field setups.
Antenna and Signal Visibility
You get four 5G antennas and one GPS antenna in the box. All connectors are SMA, so you can swap in external antennas if you need better gain or positioning for your location.
The LED signal bar on the front of the unit is straightforward: you see signal strength without digging into software or logs. Quick visual check to know if your placement is working.
Also built in:
- GPS tracking (useful for mobile assets)
- Ignition sensing (for vehicle-based setups)
- GPIO connectors (if you're building custom integrations)
- 1-year warranty
Why This Works for Enterprise Deployment
Pricing
$399 is reasonable for what you get. Enterprise routers can often cost more. If you're testing 5G across multiple sites or adding redundancy, you can deploy several units without spending thousands.
Remote Management If You Want It
Optional: Log into Peplink's InControl dashboard and you can see signal strength, data usage, and uptime across multiple units. Push configuration changes remotely. If you're managing a fleet or multiple branch offices, that remote visibility is valuable.
Deployments Where We Use this
Mobile operations and command centers. Emergency response, field service crews, mobile production trucks. You need connectivity that moves with you and doesn't rely on fixed infrastructure. Small enough to fit in a vehicle, PoE power option means you can run it off existing gear.
Backup connectivity at remote sites. You have a branch office, retail location, or production facility in an area with no fiber. If something happens to the main connection, 5G kicks in automatically. People don't notice the switch.
Industrial IoT and manufacturing. You've got sensors, machines, and telemetry systems that need cellular backbone. 5G has the speed and consistency that 4G can't match for data-heavy operations.
Temporary locations. Event production, disaster recovery, construction sites. You need high-speed connectivity without waiting for ISP install schedules. Plug it in and go.
Fleet and vehicle operations. Install this in a vehicle with a router and you've got a mobile office with video conferencing, real-time navigation, crew communication. Ignition sensing can manage power automatically.
Pricing and Plan Bundles
The adapter is $399 on its own. Add a Crosstalk Mobile Unlimited plan to your order and you get 10% off the hardware right at checkout.
Crosstalk Mobile works across AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon with FirstNet support. You get the modem, the data plan, and one vendor to work with for support and billing.
