Does the UniFi 5G Max Work with Crosstalk Mobile?

The most-asked question since we launched Crosstalk Mobile, do our unlimited SIMs work with the UniFi 5G Max? Short answer, yes. They work really well.

Setup is dead simple

You plug the UniFi 5G Max into PoE on one of the LAN ports of your network, then adopt it in UniFi. From there, UniFi sets it up automatically as an additional WAN source. No fiddling with APN settings, no manual WAN config. It just works.

The speeds are strong

With the UniFi 5G Max just sitting in my window, I'm pulling 475 Mbps down. In some locations we've seen speeds up to about 800 Mbps. For a unit sitting indoors with no external antenna, that's impressive.

A heads up on SIM compatibility

The UniFi 5G Max won't accept just any SIM you happen to have lying around. A couple of common ones that don't work:

  • T-Mobile home internet SIMs. If you've got a T-Mobile home internet plan, you can't pull the SIM out of their gateway, drop it into the UniFi 5G Max, and expect it to work. It will not.
  • Verizon. The UniFi 5G Max doesn't currently work with anything from Verizon. Verizon support is on UniFi's roadmap, but it's not there yet.

Crosstalk Mobile SIMs are built for exactly this use case, drop a SIM into any compatible 5G modem and have it just work. No locked gateways, no carrier shenanigans.
